AI Content Writers
- Can They Meet Expectations?
Confession time. My first few times using AI content writers did not turn out anywhere close to my expectations.
This is my first time writing a blog, and I’d watched a few encouraging videos (with titles like ‘Write a Blog Post in 20 Minutes!). After that I was confident it would surely be a breeze with all this great technology. But I forgot to factor myself into this rosy picture.
This first adventure ended when I was informed that I write like a robot. Even though this news was delivered by a robot AI detector, it somehow did not feel complimentary!
So in the next few posts I’ll be sharing ideas on how to be better prepared than I was. And thoughts on expectations, because it’s easy to get caught up in hype that doesn’t reflect reality. To make sure we’re all tracking to the same music, let’s start with some basics about AI content writers.
What do we mean by AI Content Writers?
Content writers are driven by artificial intelligence (AI) software and designed to write just about any type of content. This can include websites, blogs, social media, marketing, internal documentation, scripts, and even books.
Many content writer companies build their platforms around Open AI and the latest version of the ChatGPT app. Other companies are developing their own AI content platforms outside of Open AI.
How AI Content Can Improve Customer Experience
The primary benefits that AI content writers are known for include speed, consistency, and scalability. And as a small business owner you may be wondering how those benefits might improve your customer experience results. Here’s several positive impacts to consider:
Faster Turnaround Times
A good customer experience depends on frequent, positive engagement. And speed in communicating your message to your customers gives you a competition advantage. An AI writer helps you to produce content faster without sacrificing quality.
According to this Forbes article, 64% of businesses – including your competition – are expecting an improvement in productivity as a result of using AI technology.
Improved Consistency
A consistent style can be a challenge when there are multiple writers, teams, and projects. An AI writing assistant can ensure consistent messaging across your website, social media posts and other marketing materials.
It can also enhance accuracy by minimizing human errors such as typos or grammatical mistakes.
And finally, you’ve no doubt put a lot of time and effort into developing your brand voice. AI content writers can help ensure the consistency of your unique voice across your public facing content.
Better SEO Performance
Before your customers can have a great customer experience they first have to find you through your website and online content. Search engine optimization (SEO) plays a crucial role in driving organic traffic towards your website and online content.
Many AI content writers integrate with SEO tools that analyze keywords and assist to optimize text for search engines. This helps to boost visibility online and improve user engagement levels.
Ease of Scaling Content Production
As your business grows more content is expected by your customers. AI writing tools make it easier to scale up content production without sacrificing quality or consistency. This can be particularly beneficial when targeting new markets or expanding into additional product lines.
Other Benefits Include Cost Savings
You may find that these platforms offer a more budget-friendly alternative to your current processes. Some in-house writing or freelancing efforts can be reduced or redirected to other projects. This can result in significant cost savings over time.
AI Content Writer Limitations
They Lack That Human touch
AI-generated content tends to lack personal connection and emotional appeal. You’ll need to add your own stories.
They Don’t Do Well with Complexity
AI writers struggle to create context and to write about complex topics requiring expert input. Some AI content writers such as Jasper help this by making many templates available that help create context before writing the article.
They Need Fact Checking:
Everything AI writers know comes from the internet. It’s important to review the content and follow up with your own research and fact checking.
They Often Come with Unrealistic Expectations
One of the biggest lessons from my AI content writing experience is the importance of setting realistic expectations. The hype can be high octane but the initial results may leave you in the slow lane. In heavy traffic.
It’s not that the marketing is dishonest, but it is my opinion that important details tend to get left out. AI writers in their current form are writing assistants that produce first drafts that require editing, sometimes quite a lot depending on what your goals are.
And like any other software they require training time. Expect a learning curve before you expect to see the hoped for results.
Optimization is the key to high quality, unique content. How much optimizing? That depends on a number of factors
- The AI platform itself – features, integrations, and how they’ve configured AI on their platform
- Your experience with AI writing and with writing online content in general.
- The type of content that’s being produced. The higher the need for niche type expertise the more editing you can expect to do.
In the next post I’ll cover common AI content writer features and how optimization fits into the writing process.
